A positive C-Section birth

Although C-Section’s are the most common surgery in the world, and the prevalence is rising. So how come the before and after care surrounding C-Section births, has not improved in the last decade?

With approx. 55,000 babies being born every month within the UK and under 30% of these being c-section births, (Scotland is slightly higher with around 36% c-section rate), we think it’s about time that more help and support is given to our c-section mums.

Is having a C-Section the easy way out?

Having a C-Section is not an “easy way out.” It is major surgery, so recovery time can be longer. Getting the right information, help, guidance, and support is crucial to understanding more about C-Sections and how to recover well. That is why at HLP Therapy we have created the “Positive C-Section.” Under this name, we are running online, short courses for mums, to help prepare them for their C-Section birth.

HLP Therapy are training health professionals.

We are training health professionals in how to effectively treat C-Section mums and C-Section scars. We have designed “Positive C-Section Recovery Kits” for mums, containing products to enhance their C-Section recovery. As well as this, we deliver free information across our social media platforms on important topics such as; how to massage your C-Section scar, what exercises are safe to start with after a C-Section, how to look after your pelvic floor, how to care for your C-Section scar and so much more.

As you can probably tell, we are passionate about all things C-Section related! As a Senior Physiotherapist, with over 20 years’ experience, and a C-Section mum myself, I have both a professional and personal interest in C-Section and C-Section recovery. I use a combination of this knowledge and experience to help C-Section mums accelerate their global healing.

C-Section scar

C-Section recovery tips.

If you have just had a C-Section and are in your first week of recovering, then why not follow these simple tips:-

Pat dry your scar with a soft muslin cloth when you’ve had a wash – never rub your scar.

Get out of bed by rolling onto your side, swing your legs over the bed and use your hands to get into a sitting position. This way you are not putting pressure on your scar.

Make sure you get as much rest as possible. I know this is tricky, but ask for as much help as possible, while you recover.

Drink plenty of fresh water and eat “healing” foods such as grains, oats and berries, to give you the nutrients you need for healing and take your placenta capsules!
